OFAM 2008: Opening Gala, Cotton Club Stomp
07/30/2008
07/30/2008
Silva Concert Hall, Hult Center
This year?s musical journey begins with an evening of music from the most influential night-clubs in the heyday of New York City night-life, the famed Cotton Club. The Cotton Club?s golden years, the late 1920s and early ?30s, featured such giants as Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, Bill ?Bojangles? Robinson, Ethel Waters and more. The Cotton Club Stomp features many songs written either specifically for the Cotton Club Revues, or songs that became popular through their exposure in these shows. Look for ?Stormy Weather,? ?Minnie The Moocher,? ?Sophisticated Lady,? ?It Don?t Mean A Thing (If It Ain?t Got That Swing),? ?Diga, Diga, Do? and more!
