Glass Roots Arts Festival...

Glass Roots Arts Festival

This downtown Tacoma Festival is free, open to the public, serves all ages, and is arts based.. Local arts of many genres are present, including visual art, live music, theatrical performances and spoken word poetry. The main purpose of the Festival is to present a variety of art forms in a public venue, allowing people to see the breadth of arts that exist in Tacoma.
The Glass Roots Arts Festival encourages local artists, including those of under-represented disciplines to participate. We intentionally seek out all arts genres to be a part of our Festival.. Musicians and performance artists are invited to share new works at this festival, so there is an opportunity for the community to experience unusual contemporary projects. The musicians are recorded as they perform, for a CD to be released later. All proceeds of the recording benefit the Tacoma Arts Community.
The Glass Roots Arts Festival is not juried for visual artists; the vendors choose how they will participate. In its first year, the festival attracted a number of regionally appreciated artists and performers. Many attendees commented on the range of entertainment and activities, including Two Feet Crew painting the side of the building and art project for children. Success for the Glass Roots Arts Festival is measured in the enjoyment of the participants and attendees. Last year, there were 15-20 artist?s booths, 10 musical performers, a team of graffiti artists, a spoken word poet and theatrical performances by Shakespeare in the Parking Lot.
This year we have a great line up of acts and we are forgoing the old model of street fairs and 10x10 booths. We want this festival to be about art "happening". We encourage any participants to make a commitment to "doing" their art rather than just bringing it and selling it.
